Large Bitcoin holders' share of supply hits 9-month low amid price drop

Large Bitcoin holders reduce their reserves

According to data from analytics firm Santiment, the share of large Bitcoin holders in the total supply of the cryptocurrency has reached a 9-month low. This trend is due to the fact that during the price decline, large investors are realizing their profits by selling part of their holdings.

At the same time, retail traders, on the contrary, are increasing their investments in Bitcoin. This is a classic model of market participant behavior during a bearish trend: large players exit the market, while small investors try to 'buy the bottom'. According to Santiment analysts, this pattern often precedes the beginning of a new bearish cycle in the cryptocurrency market.

Certainly, the reduction in the share of large holders in the total Bitcoin supply may put pressure on the quotes. However, it is important to remember that the cryptocurrency market is highly volatile, and significant price fluctuations in either direction in the short term are quite natural.

Expert opinion

The current situation in the cryptocurrency market reflects the general trend of decreasing interest of institutional investors in Bitcoin. After the rapid price increase in 2021, many large holders decided to realize their profits, which led to a decrease in their share in the total supply. At the same time, the activity of retail traders indicates a persistent interest from private investors.

In the long term, the gradual redistribution of Bitcoin from large to small holders may have a positive impact on the development of the cryptocurrency market. This will contribute to greater decentralization and stability of the entire ecosystem. However, in the short term, such changes can create additional volatility, which should be taken into account when forming investment strategies.
