The Canadian crypto lending firm Ledn has announced that it has raised $188 million in the first securitization of its Bitcoin-backed consumer loans. According to the Bloomberg report, Ledn has packaged thousands of such loans into rated bonds, allowing investors to gain exposure to the cryptocurrency market without directly purchasing and holding Bitcoin.
This deal marks the first example of securitizing Bitcoin-backed credits. Previously, companies operating in the crypto space have primarily raised funds through traditional methods, such as issuing stocks or debt. Now, investors have the opportunity to diversify their portfolios by including crypto assets without the need to manage them directly.
Ledn CEO Adam Reeds noted that there is growing demand for such products from institutional investors, as they seek new ways to access the cryptocurrency market. He said that the securitization of Bitcoin-backed loans opens up new opportunities for crypto companies to raise capital and increase the transparency of their operations.

The crypto lending market has been actively developing in recent years. According to Cointelegraph Research, the total volume of crypto loans reached $24 billion at the end of 2021.
