Regulation of Crypto ATMs in Minnesota

The authorities of the state of Minnesota are planning to introduce a complete ban on the operation of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency ATMs on their territory. A relevant bill was recently introduced in the local parliament in response to the growing number of fraudulent schemes related to digital assets.

According to the authors of the legislative initiative, cryptocurrency ATMs pose a serious threat to the residents of Minnesota, as they are often used by criminals to extort money from gullible citizens. Such ATMs allow you to quickly convert cash into digital coins, which makes it difficult to track and return stolen funds.

It is worth noting that Minnesota is not the only state concerned about the spread of cryptocurrency ATMs. Similar measures have been discussed in New York and California, where cases of fraud using such devices have also been recorded.

From the experts' point of view, a complete ban on cryptocurrency ATMs is unlikely to be an effective solution to the problem. A more reasonable approach may be to tighten the requirements for their owners and operators, for example, by introducing a mandatory license and regular inspections. This will reduce the risks without excessively restricting citizens' access to digital assets.
