Russia's crypto market is huge and unregulated
According to the Russian deputy finance minister, the daily turnover of cryptocurrencies in the country reaches 50 billion rubles, or about $648 million. This is a colossal amount that, as the official acknowledges, "happens outside the field of our attention".
These figures demonstrate how significant and uncontrolled the crypto market in Russia is. The lack of clear regulation allows funds to freely flow into digital assets, which raises concerns among financial authorities.
The Russian government has long been trying to streamline the cryptocurrency sphere. In 2020, a law "On Digital Financial Assets" was adopted, which, however, still lacks the necessary bylaws for full implementation. In addition, the Bank of Russia advocates a complete ban on cryptocurrencies in the country, while the Ministry of Finance proposes to regulate them.
Thus, the Russian authorities are searching for a balance between the need to control the huge financial flows in cryptocurrencies and the reluctance to completely ban this market. Probably, in the near future, we will see a tightening of regulation, but hardly a complete ban on cryptocurrencies in Russia, given their popularity and involvement of the population.
