Protecting crypto developers at risk
Coin Center, an organization that defends the rights of the crypto community, has issued an appeal to the US Senate urging them not to abandon a bill that protects cryptocurrency developers from criminal liability for abuses related to their software solutions.
According to Coin Center, such protection should be provided to crypto developers, as internet service providers and cloud hosting platforms are not held responsible when their platforms are used for criminal purposes. The authors of the bill believe that crypto developers should also not be held accountable for the actions of bad actors who use their software products.
It's worth noting that the US Senate had previously considered the possibility of rejecting this bill, which caused serious concern in the crypto community. Many experts and market participants fear that such a decision could deal a blow to the development of the crypto industry in the country, as it would create serious legal risks for developers.
Expert opinion
In my opinion, Coin Center's position on this issue is fully justified. If internet companies are not held responsible for criminal acts committed using their platforms, then crypto developers should also not be subject to criminal prosecution for similar abuses. This is important for the further development of the crypto industry, as it reduces the legal risks for specialists working in this field.
At the same time, I believe that there should be careful control over the activities of crypto developers to exclude their direct involvement in illegal schemes. Protection from liability should only apply in cases where developers were unaware of the criminal use of their products.
