Bitcoin Remains Steady as Precious Metals Crash
While gold and silver prices have seen significant declines amid concerns over a potential change in the Federal Reserve (Fed) leadership and growing expectations of interest rate hikes, Bitcoin has maintained its stability.
According to Decrypt, gold prices have fallen more than 3%, dropping below $1,800 per ounce - the lowest level since April this year. Silver, on the other hand, has plummeted by 6%, reaching $21.50 per ounce, the lowest level since November 2020.
In contrast, Bitcoin has demonstrated high resilience, holding in the $16.5-17k range. Analysts attribute this to the cryptocurrency being increasingly perceived by investors as a safe-haven asset amid the volatility in traditional financial markets.
The drop in gold and silver prices is linked to expectations that US President Joe Biden will reappoint the hawkish Jerome Powell for a second term as the Fed chair. This strengthens expectations of more aggressive interest rate hikes, which typically negatively impact the value of precious metals.
Bitcoin's Stability Amid Market Turmoil
