New features in MetaMask

The popular cryptocurrency wallet and browser extension MetaMask, developed by ConsenSys, has announced an expansion of its functionality for users outside the United States. MetaMask will now offer tokenized US stocks, ETFs and commodities through products from Ondo Finance.

This integration will allow MetaMask clients residing outside the US to access various US dollar-denominated financial instruments by tokenizing them on the Ethereum blockchain. Initially, this functionality will be available in all jurisdictions except 30 countries where Ondo Finance cannot operate due to local restrictions.

Tokenized financial instruments will be presented under the Ondo GM (Globally Mobile) brand and will allow users to buy, sell and store them in their cryptocurrency wallets. This opens up new opportunities for crypto investors outside of America, who previously could not directly trade such assets.

Context and prospects

This innovation in MetaMask is part of the overall trend towards expanding the capabilities of decentralized finance (DeFi) and increasing the availability of traditional financial instruments for cryptocurrency users. Tokenization allows overcoming geographical and jurisdictional limitations, giving people around the world equal access to various assets.

Experts believe that the integration of tokenized financial products into popular cryptocurrency wallets like MetaMask will be an important step towards the mass adoption of DeFi and the cryptocurrency economy as a whole. This makes digital assets more attractive and understandable for a wider audience, increasing trust in the industry.
