The percentage of people who click on an ad after seeing it. Calculated as Clicks / Impressions × 100%. Measures ad creative effectiveness.

Average CTR benchmarks differ significantly by ad format: Facebook feed ads typically see 0.9-1.5% CTR, Google Search ads average 3-5% CTR (since users are actively searching), push notifications range from 0.5-3%, and native ads on platforms like Taboola hover around 0.1-0.4%. A higher CTR not only means more traffic for the same spend but also signals to ad platforms that your ad is relevant, which often lowers your CPC through quality score rewards. For example, a Facebook ad with 2.5% CTR will typically receive a lower CPM than a similar ad with 0.5% CTR, because Facebook prefers showing engaging content. Media buyers test dozens of creative variations to find high-CTR winners — changing just the headline or thumbnail image can swing CTR by 2-3x.
